At this time of year, when we’re all preparing for the festivities and spending time with family and friends, we may also reflect on the passing year. I’m particularly looking forward to spending time with my extended family and taking a short break from work but before I do, I have thought about what 2017 has meant for me and Mabel Child.
Mabel Child has been operating for fifteen months and 2017 was my first full year in business so now is a good opportunity to reflect on the past months, consider our achievements and make plans for the year ahead.
For me, this last year has been a steep learning curve. I have established a children’s clothing boutique and I’m very happy that Mabel Child has had a successful year. We’ve gradually expanded the number of brands we work with and our customer base has also increased. Personally, I have learnt more about the day-today running of a business and juggling this with being mummy and running the home.
We are all feeling the pinch of the weak pound and increasing prices, so thinking ahead, I am keen to collaborate with brands who provide clothing at prices my customers can comfortably afford.
At Mabel Child, we prefer organic and ethically made clothing with a minimal carbon footprint so we want to explore working with British brands who produce clothing in the U.K. Balancing our wish to protect the environment with the equally important factor of selling high quality items is a difficult one. As a mother of three girls, I am aware that often spending a little more on a garment that will last for years is a better investment – I rarely buy new clothes for my youngest daughter who has hand-me-downs from her two elder sisters! I think in the coming months customers will see clothing in different price brackets. Of course, we all want that special treat but we also want to provide clothing for every day. You will also see more products which can be worn across the seasons. So, garments that can be layered such as dress paired with tights and a woolly cardigan but which can also be worn during the sunny months.
Mabel Child stock a small number of toys and accessories and you will see a greater range of decorative items for a child’s bedroom, including bedding and blankets. Please do join our newsletter and look out for our new arrivals! Do contact us with any questions / comments and we also welcome suggestions for new brands.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our customers and collaborators for working with us and to wish you all a happy, healthy and fun festive period.
With much love,
